Devonport Regatta
3/5/17 - Each year the Rotary Club operates the club’s food van at various community events – AGFEST, Devonport Motor Show and the Devonport Regatta.

At this years Devonport Regatta, a full roster of members ran the van throughout the day, cooking and serving hot chips, chiko rolls, hot and cold drinks and our famous hot dogs.

As well as raising money for our community projects, it’s a great opportunity for Rotarians to spend time together and there are always lots of laughs.

When the club is not using the food van, we hire it out to other local community groups for their own fundraising activities. The van enables the raising of thousands of dollars to benefit the community.

If you would like information on hiring of the food van, or the clubs refrigerated trailers, please visit the Food Van page or contact David de Cani on 0417 570 447.

Rotarians Garry Von Schill, Vanessa and Jeff Sharman, Yvonne Haddock and David de Cani, prepare for the hungry crowds at the Devonport Regatta.

Rotary beyondblue Golf Day 2017
2/2/17 - The Rotary Club held its successful Beyondblue Golf Tournament on Sunday at the Port Sorell Golf Club in Shearwater. Once again the event proved popular with local golfers with all team spots being filled.

Event Coordinator, PP Garry von Schill, was very pleased with how the whole day rolled out.

"Everyone had a great day and at the same time was supporting a great cause. A special thank you to all of the corporate sponsors for the day who donated thousands of dollars in prizes to support the event. Every player on the day left with something from the prize table - from tool sets to magnums of wine."

15 teams, comprising of 60 players all up, played an 18 hole ambrose format game. First prize for the tournament went to the Battle Scars Foundation team. The longest drive awards went to Robert Mason and Sharon Goodson whilst the nearest to the pin awards went to Jade Bryan and Vicki Cure.

Players returned to the clubhouse after 18 holes to a BBQ lunch, prepared by the Rotary Club members and partners.

Guest speaker, Mr Greg Wing gave an informative talk on his experiences and knowledge of mental health issues and how men in particular, deal with them.

A brief overview of beyondblue, their services and objectives, was also presented by PP Garry Von Schill.

"beyondblue provides information and support to help everyone in Australia achieve their best possible mental health, whatever their age and wherever they live. Depression is the leading cause of disability worldwide. In Australia, it is estimated that 45 per cent of people will experience a mental health condition in their lifetime."

All those present at the event were asked to maintain awareness of their own health and if they needed help then there were various ways beyondblue could help. It was also important for everyone to look out for their friends and family in relation to mental health.

"We all know what we tend to do as males when it comes to dealing with our worries and stresses, and these can lead to depression and other mental health issues. If you see possible signs of depression or anxiety in your mates or family members, talk to them and help them to seek professional help."

The event was a great success with Garry announcing that the day had raised around $6,280 which will be donated to services for kids with cancer.

East Devonport Twilight Market
17/3/17 - The club recently collaborated with the Devonport City Council to coordinate a Twilight Market in East Devonport. The street block between Mary and Thomas Streets was closed off to traffic and over 20 stall holders set up along the street. Hundreds of locals and visitors to the region ambled through the stalls looking for a bargain and the BBQ stall operated by the Rotary Club was busy all night cooking hamburgers and sausages.

The event concluded in a pet parade with dozens of local pooches being presented to the crowd. A great evening was had by all and feedback from both stallholders and visitors to the market was all positive.
